Dr. Aafia Siddiqui Day in the USA – September 23, 2015 (with initiatives from Sept. 23-25)

In the Name of ALLAH, The Beneficent, The Merciful

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui Day in the USA

September 23, 2015

(with initiatives from Sept. 23-25)

Assalaamu Alaikum (Greetings of Peace):

From March 2003 to the summer of 2008, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and her three young children were missing, casualties of America’s “global war on terrorism.” In 2008 after Aafia mysteriously reappeared on the streets of Afghanistan in a debilitated state, she was taken back into custody, shot by an American soldier under highly questionable circumstances, and subsequently brought back to the United States and put on trial for the alleged attempted murder of US personnel in Afghanistan in 2008.

During the trial that unfolded at a federal courthouse in New York City almost two years later, both forensic and circumstantial evidence were in Aafia’s favor; and the government’s star witnesses contradicted themselves (and each other) under oath so much, that they should have been charged with perjury! Regrettably, Aafia was maligned and demonized by the government and media from the time she set foot back in the United States until the time of the trial; and she had a judge who in the opinion of many was openly biased against her.

(Part of that bias was expressed in Judge Richard Berman ordering the FIVE MISSING YEARS, 2003-2008, off limits during the trial! Bits and pieces were revealed only when Aafia – against the advice of her attorneys and a forked tongue Pakistani ambassador by the name of Haqqani – took the stand in her own defense, and forced some of the suppressed testimony out, over the vigorous objections of government prosecutors.)

Tragically, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was found guilty at the conclusion of her kangaroo court trial, and even though she was never charged with one terrorism related offense, on September 23, 2010, Judge Berman applied terrorism enhancements and imposed a sentence of 86 YEARS!

Despite all of this, on the day that Aafia Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 YEARS – after all that she had been through – when she addressed the court (after she was oppressively sentenced!) she delivered a message of compassion and forgiveness that was incredible to behold. She also made a passionate plea to her supporters that there be NO VIOLENCE in response to the [then seven year] injustice that had done to her!

Within days of the unjust decision, a demonstration comprising about a million people took to the streets of Karachi (Aafia’s home city) – with parallel demonstrations in a number of other cities. The thing that was truly extraordinary about these demonstrations, beyond the numbers, was the passion and non-violent order of the assemblies. It wasn’t too long, however, when the time came in which Aafia’s supporters were tested with violence that was visited upon them.

What would be the outcome? Would they be cowed into silence and inaction? Or would they cave into the passions of the moment and become violent rioters in violation of Aafia’s wishes and well-being? Alhamdullilah, after that one violent episode (that was imposed upon them from the outside) the movement maintained its integrity and the struggle continued!

This writer, over the past few years, has been encouraging Muslim artists to take a hard look at Aafia’s case, and consider using their craft to tell her story –  a story that happens to be one of the most disturbing and compelling of modern times. Unbeknownst to any of us within the movement (until a week or so ago), a talented young brother, Qalbin Saleem, has done just that.

On this day that marks the 5th anniversary of an oppressive 86 YEAR SENTENCE, we invite you to click on the link below; and if you are as impressed as we are, do your part to help it go viral. But don't stop there…participate in the initiatives that we have planned in the US over the next three days (see below).

And please be aware that this is a dignified movement of faith, determination, and peace, Aafia Movement (global).

The struggle continues,

Special Alert!

Re: Dr. Aafia Siddiqui Initiatives, September 23 – 25, 2015

On September 23rd and 24th there will be a call-in petition drive directed at two government offices in Washington, DC.

On Wednesday, September 23rd – “Dr. Aafia Siddiqui Day in the USA” – we are asking Aafia supporters to call and e-mail the Pakistan Embassy in Washington, DC, with two simple requests:

(1)   Make a sincere effort to secure the repatriation (i.e. the release from US custody and return) of your long suffering citizen, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.

(2)   To immediately request that an Independent Medical Team (IMT) be allowed to examine Dr. Siddiqui at FMC Carswell (where she is imprisoned in Fort Worth, TX); and that her sister, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, be part of that IMT.

·         The number & e-mail at the Pakistan Embassy (please ask for the ambassador’s office when calling) is:

Tel: 202-243-6500 / E-mail: info@embassyofpakistanusa.org

On Thursday, September 24, we are asking Aafia supporters to call the U.S. Bureau of Prisons headquarters in Washington, DC, with one simple request:

Allow an Independent Medical Team (IMT) into FMC Carswell to examine Dr. Siddiqui; and allow her sister, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, be part of that IMT.

·         The number for the US Bureau of Prisons is (please ask for the office of the BOP Director, Mr. Charles E. Samuels):

Tel: (202) 307-3198

Special Note: In your communication with both offices, please feel free to put the requests in your own words (if that is more comfortable for you) – but be brief and polite.

On Friday, September 25th4:00 to 5:30 PM, a support rally for Aafia will be held in front of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons headquarters, located at 320 First Street, NW, Washington, DC. 20534.

(This venue is not far from the U.S. Capitol, and is Bus & METRORAIL accessible.)

In addition to the call for the Independent Medical Team examination, we will be demanding that Aafia be permitted andencouraged to call her family – THERE HAS BEEN NO CONTACT IN OVER A YEAR! We will also endeavor to remind BOP authorities of the human rights and constitutional protections that prisoners are supposed to be entitled to.

If you have a copy of The Aafia Monitor, but have not yet read it, please do; for it will help put the need and significance of these critically important actions into perspective.

Also, Be Advised (and Help Spread The Word!): In the early morning hours of September 23rd) we will release a special 6 minute video online (a snapshot on the global Free Aafia Campaign) that we truly expect will go viral, iA. If it impresses you (as we believe it will), share it with others, along with the introductory commentary that will accompany it. Tap into the determination and energy of the International Free Aafia Movement, and do YOUR PART to help advance this critically important campaign.

O Muslims! If you’re in a position to do so, make a donation today  in this blessed month of Dhul Hijjah 1436 A.H., wherein all acts of charity done for ALLAH’s Pleasure are magnified! It’s been 12 LONG YEARS…OUR SISTER NEEDS US NOW!
